4 Remanded for Dumping Children in Stream

Four suspects who allegedly dumped two children in Dumi stream, in Bauchi Local Government Area has been remanded in police custody by the Bauchi State Chief Magistrate’s court. The four suspects including the parents of the children were arrested by the Police and arraigned in court.
It was reported recently that two children were dumped inside a stream by unknown persons in Bauchi. One of the children died while the other survived.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Amos Ukpe, had filed two separate cases over the incident.

In the first case, he charged the four suspects with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to sections 221 and 96 of the penal code.
Ukpe also charged the parents of the child who survived for criminal conspiracy and abandonment, contrary to sections 96 and237 of the penal code.
The prosecutor told the court that a ward head of Gwallaga, Mallam Dandada Ahmadu reported to the Bauchi township police station that a woman called Sakina Ibrahim of Dajin Village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government who claimed to be a herbalist told the two parents that their children were not normal human beings and advised them to dump them in the stream so that they will drown to which the parents complied.
Inspector Ukpe said: “When the herbalist in company of the parents took the children and dumped them inside stream in Dumi village, one of the children,  Adamu Suleiman Danjuma (two years) survived and was rescued by good Samaritans while the other boy, Aliyu Suleiman Haruna (four years old) got drowned and died in the stream.
